When I first arrived in Spain, I always admired the professional-looking employees in their uniforms at the clinics. Recently, a friend of mine started looking for jobs in this sector, which got me researching as well. I discovered that Spanish healthcare giants like Sanitas, Asisa, and Adeslas are constantly hiring for a much wider variety of roles than I had imagined. Today, I’m sharing what I’ve dug up as a reference for anyone else interested in this industry.

Overview of Core Job Requirements
Don’t make the mistake of thinking healthcare companies only hire doctors and nurses. Their operations are vast, requiring a wide range of talent in areas from insurance sales and customer service to information technology and marketing. I’ve summarized the main categories, and the requirements for Spanish health insurance vary in terms of language skills and professional background.
Medical Professional Roles
This is, of course, their core workforce. It includes general practitioners, specialists, nurses, physical therapists, etc. The hard requirements for these positions are very specific:
- You must have the corresponding academic qualifications and professional licenses officially recognized in Spain. Medical degrees from abroad need to go through the Homologación process, which can be lengthy, so it’s best to prepare in advance.
- A high level of Spanish proficiency is required, typically C1 or C2, as you’ll be communicating directly with patients.
- Work experience within the Spanish public or private healthcare system is a huge plus.
Non-Medical Professional Roles
This is where most of us have a chance. These roles include customer service, insurance sales consultants, administrative staff, and more. These positions place a greater emphasis on your soft skills and communication abilities.
| Position Category | Core Requirements | Language Requirements | Recommended Professional Background |
| Customer Service | Communication skills, patience, problem-solving ability | B2 - C1 | Open to all majors, service industry experience is a plus |
| Insurance Sales | Goal-oriented, resilience, sales skills | B2 - C1 | Marketing, Business |
| IT / Tech | Software development, data analysis, cybersecurity | B1 - B2 | Computer Science, Information Technology |
| Marketing Department | Market planning, digital marketing, brand management | C1 | Advertising, Journalism, Marketing |
Even for non-medical roles, excellent Spanish is an absolute must to get your foot in the door. Furthermore, if you are looking into Spanish healthcare recruitment and also speak English or other European languages, you’ll have a significant advantage when applying for positions catering to international clients. I’ve seen some Sanitas job postings for Spanish health insurance that explicitly state “valorable inglés”. Many companies now use platforms like InfoJobs and LinkedIn for recruitment. You can prepare your resume and set up keyword alerts for terms like “Asisa,” “Sanitas careers,” so you’ll be notified of new openings immediately. I hope this helps those of you who are job hunting! Feel free to share any interview experiences you have!
