Having recently moved to Spain, I’ve been researching how to find a job in the public hospital system and found the information to be quite scattered. After some digging, I’ve finally got a clearer picture and have compiled a list of the most important official recruitment websites. I hope this helps others in the same situation.
Unlike in some countries with centralized job portals, Spain’s public healthcare system is decentralized and managed by each autonomous community’s government. This means every region has its own independent recruitment website and procedures, which is also relevant if you ever need to file hospital complaints. To find a job in a specific area, you need to visit the official health system website for that community. Below, I’ve listed the recruitment portals for some of the main autonomous communities.

Official Health System Recruitment Websites
Community of Madrid: The system here is called SERMAS. Job postings are usually published on their official website under the “OPE y Bolsas de Empleo” section. In addition to permanent civil servant positions, they also frequently offer temporary contracts, which provide more opportunities for newcomers, not unlike how some of Madrid’s famous institutions have evolved, such as the building that now houses the Reina Sofía Art Centre.
Catalonia: The system here is the ICS (Institut Català de la Salut). The website is comprehensive, with positions for doctors, nurses, and technicians. Their recruitment process seems quite standardized, and the website navigation is clear. It might be challenging if you don’t read Catalan, but there is usually an option to switch to Spanish.
Andalusia: Their system is called SAS (Servicio Andaluz de Salud). There are many opportunities in the south, and the website is updated frequently. I personally feel the SAS website is the most modern, or rather, the most user-friendly, haha.
Summary of Main Recruitment Portals
To make it easier for you to navigate directly, I’ve organized the URLs into a table. I recommend bookmarking it and checking back regularly for new job postings.
| Autonomous Community | Health System Name | Official Website/Recruitment Portal |
| Madrid | SERMAS | https://www.comunidad.madrid/servicios/salud |
| Catalonia | ICS | https://ics.gencat.cat/ca/treballa-a-lics/ |
| Andalusia | SAS | https://www.sspa.juntadeandalucia.es/servicioandaluzdesalud/profesionales |
| Valencian Community | Conselleria de Sanidad | https://www.san.gva.es/web/dgrhs/ |
| Basque Country | Osakidetza | https://www.osakidetza.euskadi.eus/empleo-publico/ |
A final reminder: these public system jobs usually require degree recognition (homologación) and a certain level of language proficiency. The application process, much like learning to use the website for a specific medical center like Hospital Clínic, can be lengthy and requires patient preparation of various documents. Always read the specific requirements for each position carefully before applying. Good luck with your job search! If you have any questions, feel free to discuss them in this thread!
