Having just moved to Mallorca, I’ve been busy looking at schools for my child, and it’s been a real headache. After searching online, I found that information in Chinese about international schools in Mallorca is scarce and scattered, mostly consisting of agency ads. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and compile the information I’ve gathered on a few schools. I’m sharing this from a newcomer’s perspective, hoping it helps others who are new here. I also welcome any additions or corrections from long-time residents on the island!
My child is in primary school, so my focus has been on schools offering the British or IB curriculum. After looking around, it seems there are a few main schools on the island that get the most attention, each with its own character. For instance, Baleares International College has two campuses, one in Sa Porrassa and another in Sant Agustí. It’s one of the larger ones, offering the complete English National Curriculum. The student body seems very diverse, and the facilities look good, though I’ve heard they are quite academically demanding.
Another well-known school is Queen’s College, located near Palma city center, which has a very long history. A neighbor told me that this school has many children from local elite families, boasts a strong academic reputation, and achieves outstanding A-Level results, making it a good school in the traditional sense. However, the entrance requirements are relatively high, and securing a spot isn’t guaranteed. There’s also The Academy International School, which is smaller. I’ve heard the atmosphere is more like a big family, with teachers giving more individual attention to students. It has a welcoming, nurturing feel, which is also very appealing.
To make comparison easier, I’ve created a simple table.
