I’ve been looking at schools for my child recently, and it’s becoming quite overwhelming. Our family is not sure if we’ll return to our home country in the future, so we’re prioritizing international schools with a British education system for an easier transition later on. We’re based in Madrid, and a friend recently mentioned Richmond Park School, also known as RC International School. They said it seems pretty good, but the information I can find online is quite scattered and mostly from agencies. So, I wanted to ask on this forum if any parents here have firsthand knowledge.

I’ve taken a look at their official website. The facilities seem very new, and the campus looks large and beautiful. It’s located in a nice residential area, so the environment should be great. Their main focus is the British National Curriculum, which fits our needs perfectly. The website emphasizes innovation, arts, and sports, which all sounds wonderful, but I’m keen to know what it’s actually like, as there’s often a gap between marketing and reality.
A few questions I’m particularly interested in
I’m mainly hoping to get some more “down-to-earth” information from current families or anyone who knows the school well:
Teachers and Student Body
Is there a high teacher turnover? Are most of the teachers from the UK? I place a high value on teacher stability and experience. Also, what is the student demographic like? Is it highly international, or is it predominantly Spanish families? Are there many Chinese students?
Curriculum and Academics
I know it’s a British curriculum, but how academically rigorous is the school? What’s the homework load like? Beyond the core subjects, what is the quality of the STEAM, arts, and music classes they promote? Are they taught seriously, or are they just for show? Also, how does the school schedule the legally required Spanish language and history classes?
School Atmosphere
What’s the overall campus atmosphere like? Is it more high-pressure and competitive, or does it lean towards a more relaxed, “happy education” approach? Will my child be under a lot of stress? Are the relationships between students, and between teachers and students, harmonious? Is communication between the school and parents smooth? Are there any hidden costs or other things to be aware of? This is really important
! I’ve looked at some school descriptions and put together a simple comparison table, but it’s all based on official website information, so its accuracy is yet to be confirmed.
| Feature | RC International School | Other British Schools |
| Year Founded | 2019 | Varies, includes established, prestigious schools |
| Curriculum | British National Curriculum | Mostly similar |
| Campus Facilities | Relatively new, modern | Varies from new to old |
| Key Selling Points | Innovation, personalized education, arts & sports | History, university placement rates, tradition, etc. |
My main hesitation is that RC is a relatively new school, founded in 2019, which makes me uncertain. The advantage of a new school is modern facilities and possibly a more innovative teaching philosophy, but the disadvantage is the lack of data from graduating classes, making its university placement record an unknown. This is unlike the more established British schools where, although the fees might be higher, their past A-Level results and university acceptance rates are public and transparent. This has left me feeling quite conflicted, and I’ve been reading other discussions like this one about international schools in Mallorca
. I hope some experienced parents can offer advice or share their experiences. Thank you all in advance!
