I haven’t been in Spain for long, and with my rental lease ending soon, I’ve been seriously thinking about buying a house. After all, paying rent every month feels like I’m just working for my landlord; I’d rather turn that money into my own asset. I’ve spent a lot of time researching online property websites, made a few mistakes, but also gained some valuable experience. Today, I’m sharing what I’ve learned to hopefully help others who are also on the house hunt.

Main Property Platforms
When it comes to property websites in Spain, you can’t really avoid the major players. I primarily use Idealista and Fotocasa, as these two platforms host the vast majority of property listings on the market.
Idealista
This one is probably familiar to everyone, with its iconic little house logo. Its listings are updated very quickly, featuring a huge number of properties from both private owners and real estate agencies. The filtering options are very detailed, allowing you to search by area, price, size, layout, and even specifics like whether there’s an elevator or a terrace. My personal favorite feature is the map search. You can just draw a circle on the map, and all the properties within that area will pop up. For someone like me, who isn’t yet familiar with specific neighborhoods, this is a lifesaver, making it a standout [Spanish property website] among the many Spanish real estate websites available.
Fotocasa
Fotocasa is a direct competitor to Idealista and also has a huge number of listings; many agencies post their properties on both platforms. I find Fotocasa’s interface to be a bit more modern, and its app is quite user-friendly. It has a ‘Price Drop’ filter, which is very useful for those looking to find a bargain. However, I sometimes feel it has more agency ads or ‘promoted listings’ than Idealista, which can require a bit more effort to sift through when you’re [checking Spanish property prices].
Quick Comparison of Platform Features
To give you a clearer picture, I’ve created a simple table summarizing my personal take on these main websites. Of course, this is just my subjective opinion, so feel free to add your own thoughts!
| Platform | Pros | Cons |
| Idealista | Most comprehensive listings, powerful map search feature, frequent updates | Relatively dated interface, high-quality private listings are snapped up quickly |
| Fotocasa | Modern interface, dedicated ‘price drop’ filter, good app experience | More promotional content, which can sometimes interfere with search results |
| Pisos.com | Occasionally find exclusive listings, good as a supplementary search tool | Fewer listings overall, average app functionality |
My recommendation is to use Idealista as your primary tool and Fotocasa as a secondary one, cross-referencing between the two platforms. Sometimes, the same property might have slightly different information or photos on each site. Of course, besides these major platforms, some bank websites occasionally list good bank repossessed properties. The prices can be surprisingly low, but you’ll need to inspect the property’s condition carefully yourself. I hope everyone finds their dream home soon!
