Lately, the weather has been getting better and better. Staring at the bright sun outside my window, I can’t help but dream of living by the sea! Waking up to the sound of waves, taking casual strolls on the beach… Ahem, I’m getting sidetracked. The truth is, I’ve been seriously researching coastal properties in Spain and have done a bit of homework. Today, I’m sharing a few real estate platforms I’ve been using, hoping to help others with the same dream.

A Comparison of Major Real Estate Platforms
When it comes to finding a house in Spain, whether you’re renting or buying, there are a few essential websites you can’t ignore. They have the most listings, and they’re updated the fastest. I primarily use the following three, each with its own focus.
Idealista
This is arguably Spain’s most popular real estate website, easily recognizable by its green logo. Its main advantage is the sheer volume of listings, covering all of Spain, from big cities to small villages. The filtering function is exceptionally good; you can filter by dozens of criteria like price, size, number of rooms, whether it has an elevator, or a swimming pool. For finding seaside homes, you can directly draw a selection on the map along the coast, which is very intuitive. The downside is that because the platform is so large, the quality of listings can be inconsistent. Some photos of Spanish seaside properties are quite ‘raw,’ so you’ll need to spend time patiently sifting through them.
Fotocasa
Fotocasa and Idealista are the two biggest competitors. Personally, I feel Fotocasa’s interface and app design are a bit more modern and user-friendly. It also has a lot of listings, many of which overlap with Idealista, but you can sometimes find exclusive properties. It features a special function called ‘visita express,’ which allows you to quickly schedule an online viewing with the owner or agent—quite useful in these times. However, my impression is that its advantage is more pronounced in major cities.
Habitaclia
Habitaclia’s main stronghold is in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. If you’re looking for a seaside property in places like Barcelona or Mallorca, you absolutely can’t miss this platform. Its listings are highly concentrated and very detailed. Although it has been acquired by Idealista, it continues to operate independently, and many local agents are more accustomed to using it. Listings in other regions are comparatively scarce.
Summary
To make comparison easier, I’ve created a simple summary table:
| Platform | Main Advantages | Main Disadvantages |
| Idealista | Most listings, widest coverage, powerful filters | Inconsistent listing quality, requires time to sift through |
| Fotocasa | User-friendly interface, ‘visita express’ for online viewings | High overlap with Idealista, less of an advantage outside big cities |
| Habitaclia | Concentrated, high-quality listings in Catalonia & islands | Limited coverage, fewer listings in other regions |
My personal routine is to first cast a wide net on Idealista using its map mode to identify a few desirable areas and properties. Then, I’ll check Fotocasa and Habitaclia for any missed or better-quality listings. Buying a house is a big deal, after all, so it never hurts to look more and compare more. It’s also important to be aware of local regulations like the Ley de Costas. Do you have any other useful platforms to recommend? Feel free to discuss them below! May we all move into our dream seaside homes soon
