After a recent family discussion, we’ve decided on Tarragona as our future home. We were primarily drawn to its climate, proximity to Barcelona, and relatively quiet lifestyle. For the past few months, I’ve been browsing properties online on Idealista and Fotocasa. Last week, I finally had the chance to visit in person and wanted to share some of my observations and feelings. I’d love for anyone familiar with the area to join the discussion.
Impressions of Tarragona’s Property Market
Property prices in Tarragona are indeed much more affordable than in Barcelona. We’ve mainly looked at the city center, areas near the beach, and some of the outer neighborhoods. The old buildings in the city center have character, but many lack elevators, and parking is a major issue. The new apartment complexes in Arrabassada are very appealing, with a nice environment and proximity to the beach, but they are also the most expensive—a three-bedroom apartment there generally starts at €300,000.

In comparison, we feel that the Eixample area in the city center offers better value for money. The streets here are well-laid-out, amenities are plentiful, and it’s an easy walk to the Rambla Nova or the train station. While the buildings might not be the newest, you can find many well-maintained apartments with good layouts. Plus, the area has a lively, local atmosphere—with shops and cafes right downstairs, it’s exactly the kind of slow Mediterranean lifestyle I’m looking for.
Price Comparison by Area
To give you a clearer picture, I’ve put together a simple table based on my recent viewings of Tarragona property. The prices are approximate average ranges and will vary depending on the floor, orientation, and condition of the property. You can use this as a general reference:
| Area | Property Type | Approx. Price Range |
| Arrabassada / Miracle | 3-bedroom sea view apartment | €300,000 - €450,000+ |
| Eixample | 3-bedroom standard apartment | €180,000 - €280,000 |
| Part Alta | 2-bedroom renovated apartment | €150,000 - €250,000 |
| Cala Romana / Bosques | Villa with garden | €400,000 - €700,000+ |
Finally, I want to say that choosing a place to call home is a big decision that requires careful consideration. Tarragona has its unique charm: ancient Roman ruins, golden beaches, lively festivals… but it also has its downsides, like crowds of tourists in the summer and outdated facilities in some areas. We are still looking, hoping to find that perfect home. If you have any experience buying property or living in Tarragona, I would love for you to share in the comments and offer some advice!
