Having recently moved to Spain, I’ve been wrestling with the overwhelming task of finding a school for my child. Public, private, international schools… the sheer number of options can be dizzying. I wanted to focus on private and international schools, but I found the information to be scattered and lacked a single, centralized place for proper research. After a lot of digging, I’ve finally discovered a few very useful websites. I’m sharing them with fellow parents facing the same challenge, hoping to save you some time!

A Roundup of School-Finding Tools
These websites each have their own focus; some are dedicated search engines, while others are a school group’s official site. Using them together will give you a more complete picture. I’ve bookmarked them all and use them to cross-reference information.
Comprehensive Search Engines
Micole.net
This is arguably the most powerful school search engine in Spain, bar none. Its strength lies in its incredibly comprehensive database, covering public, semi-private (concertados), and private schools across the entire country. You can filter by region, school type, language of instruction, facilities, and even religious affiliation. Each school has a relatively detailed profile page with a basic introduction, fee range, educational stages offered, and sometimes, parent reviews. The only downside is that because it’s so comprehensive, the information can be a bit overwhelming and requires patient filtering.
Buscador de colegios de El Mundo
The newspaper El Mundo publishes a very famous annual ranking of the top 100 schools in Spain. Their website also features a school search tool. The advantage of this tool is that you can directly filter for schools on the ‘Top 100’ list or those that stand out in specific areas. If you place a high value on a school’s reputation and ranking, this is a great place to start.
Focusing on International Schools
The International Schools Database
If your goal is specifically to find international schools, then this website is perfect for you. It specializes in international schools worldwide and has extensive coverage of Spain. The site is in English with a clear information structure, allowing you to easily see which curriculum each school uses and its fee range. This makes it very convenient for parents like us who have just arrived and aren’t yet fluent in Spanish.
| Website Name | Key Features | Best For |
| Micole.net | Most comprehensive info, many filters | Everyone, especially for the initial broad search |
| El Mundo | Includes authoritative rankings, focuses on reputation | Parents who value rankings and reputation |
| The International Schools Database | Focuses on international schools, English interface | Parents specifically looking for international schools |
Finding a school is both a demanding and meticulous task. I suggest starting with a broad search on a site like Micole.net to narrow down a few options. Then, you can check El Mundo to see if these Spanish private schools are ranked or have any special mentions. If you’ve decided on an international school, use The International Schools Database for in-depth comparisons. Finally, and most importantly, always visit the school’s official website for first-hand information and, if possible, schedule a visit for an Open Day to see it in person. I hope this information is helpful, and feel free to share more useful resources for school selection in Spain!
