When I first arrived in Spain, I was shocked by the price of textbooks—each one costing 20 to 30 euros, which really hurt my wallet. Later, I discovered that many classic Spanish textbooks are available in digital format. You can study anytime, anywhere on a tablet or computer, which is both convenient and cost-effective. Today, I’m sharing a few digital textbooks I’ve used and found to be excellent, hoping to help others on their journey of self-studying Spanish.
A Few Mainstream Textbooks I’ve Used
1. AULA INTERNACIONAL
This series is probably the most common one you’ll find in Spanish language schools, covering everything from A1 to C1. Its strength lies in its modern, real-life content and engaging exercises that avoid rote memorization. The digital versions usually come with workbooks and audio files, making it a great experience to do exercises and listening practice on a tablet. For students who want to quickly integrate into Spanish life and learn authentic spoken expressions, it’s highly recommended!

2. Nuevo Prisma Fusión
Prisma is another classic textbook series. I find its structure to be more focused on a systematic approach to grammar compared to AULA. If your goal with self-studying Spanish is to build a solid grammatical foundation or to prepare for the DELE exam, Prisma is an excellent choice. It has a large volume of exercises, and the explanations in these Spanish e-books are very detailed. When I was preparing for my B2 exam, I went through the grammar sections of Prisma several times and found it incredibly helpful. Although the process was a bit tedious.
3. Sueña
This series is a bit older, but its content is still a classic. Its texts and cultural notes are very rich, allowing you to gain a deep understanding of Spanish and Latin American culture while learning Spanish on your own. However, the layout and illustrations might feel a bit dated, so it depends on your personal preference. I personally used it as supplementary reading material to broaden my cultural knowledge.
A Few Tips for Choosing a Textbook
Here’s a brief summary of the features of each textbook to help you choose based on your needs:
| Textbook | Key Features | Best For |
| AULA Internacional | Modern content, focuses on listening and speaking | Beginners who want to quickly adapt to daily life and improve their conversational skills |
| Nuevo Prisma Fusión | Systematic grammar, lots of exercises | Students with a weak grammar foundation or those preparing for the DELE exam |
| Sueña | Rich cultural content | Those interested in the culture of Spanish-speaking countries, as supplementary reading |
Finding digital versions of these textbooks online isn’t too difficult. You can check forums or Telegram groups, where you’ll often find helpful people sharing them. With a digital copy, you can flip through a few pages during your commute or while having coffee. Every little bit counts, and persistence is key! Have you used any other great textbooks?
