New to Spain and struggling with finding a place to rent? I’ve been there, made my share of mistakes, and learned a lot along the way. Today, I’m sharing a list of reliable Spanish rental websites and apps that I’ve personally used. Hope this helps you out!
Major Platforms: Lots of Listings, but Be Vigilant
When it comes to renting, you can’t ignore the major players. Their biggest advantage is the vast number of listings, covering everything from big cities like Madrid and Barcelona to small southern towns. But there’s a clear downside: the information is a mixed bag, with real estate agents and subletters everywhere. You’ll need a keen eye to sort through it all.

Idealista and Fotocasa
These two are the giants of the Spanish rental market, with very similar features and interfaces. I personally prefer Idealista; I find its map search function to be a bit smoother. On these platforms, 90% of listings are posted by agencies. After contacting them, you’ll most likely be charged one month’s rent as an agency fee. This is a common aspect of using Spanish rental websites. So, if you see a beautifully furnished apartment with an unusually low price, be extra cautious—it could be a scam. I recommend using the filter to select listings posted directly by ‘private owners’ (particular). There will be fewer options, but you can save a significant amount on agency fees.
Looking for Roommates or a Single Room? Try Badi
If you’re a student or a young professional looking to share a flat or rent a single room, Badi is an excellent option, unlike some other Spanish rental websites. It’s more of a social platform for finding roommates, allowing you to see profiles with potential roommates’ interests, hobbies, and even living habits. This approach leads to better matches, making it easier to find people you’ll get along with. However, listings on Badi aren’t updated as frequently, so you’ll need to be patient and check it regularly.
Platform Comparison and Summary
To give you a clearer overview, I’ve made a simple comparison table:
| Platform Name | Key Features | Best For |
| Idealista | Most listings, comprehensive features, mainly agents | Everyone, especially for entire flats |
| Fotocasa | Similar to Idealista, a good secondary Spanish rental websites option | Everyone |
| Badi | Social-focused, for flatshares and single rooms | Students, young professionals, those looking for roommates |
Renting is a process that requires patience and attention to detail. My advice is to browse multiple platforms at the same time. When you see a place you like, contact them immediately, because good apartments get snapped up fast! When viewing a property, be sure to inspect the details, confirm the terms of the contract, and never pay any kind of ‘deposit’ or ‘reservation fee’ before you’ve seen the actual place and a proper contract. Good luck, and I hope you all find your perfect home in Spain!
