Just arrived in Spain? Finding a place to live is definitely a top priority. Whether you’re renting or buying, the sheer number of websites can be overwhelming. Based on my own experience and that of my friends, I’ve put together a list of Spain’s most popular property websites to help you on your house-hunting journey.
A Comparison of Major Property Platforms
When it comes to property websites in Spain, the two giants you can’t miss are Idealista and Fotocasa. Essentially, over 90% of all available properties are listed on these two platforms. Both their apps and websites are well-developed with powerful filter functions, allowing you to search by area, price, property type, and even specific criteria like whether it has an elevator or comes furnished.

Pros and Cons of Each Platform
Idealista: You could call it the go-to real estate portal in Spain. It has the most listings, and they’re updated the fastest. Both private landlords and agencies prefer to post their properties here. The downside is that because it has so many listings, the information can be a bit messy. You might sometimes encounter ‘ghost listings’ – ads that use fake photos or low prices to lure you in, but the property is already rented or doesn’t even exist. So when you’re browsing Spanish rental websites, you need to keep a sharp eye out.
Fotocasa: This is Idealista’s biggest competitor, and it also has a huge number of listings. Personally, I find Fotocasa’s interface cleaner and the user experience slightly better. Some real estate agencies might post exclusive listings on Fotocasa, so it’s a good idea to check both Spanish rental websites regularly. Another unique feature it has is a ‘heat map,’ which visually shows the average property prices in a given area.
Besides these two, there are other options to consider among Spanish rental websites, such as Habitaclia and Pisos.com. However, their number of listings is much smaller compared to the top two. I’ve summarized the key features of these platforms in a simple table for easy comparison:
| Website | Pros | Cons |
| Idealista | Most listings, widest coverage | Cluttered info, relatively more fake listings |
| Fotocasa | User-friendly interface, price heat map | Slightly fewer listings than Idealista |
| Habitaclia | Many listings in the Catalonia region | Fewer listings in other regions |
| Pisos.com | Good as a supplementary option | Overall low number of listings |
My advice is to primarily use Idealista and Fotocasa, and use the other sites as supplements. House hunting is hard work and also a bit of a lottery. Look at many options, compare them carefully, and don’t make any rash decisions. I wish you all the best in finding a home you love in Spain!
