My eldest is approaching school age, so I’ve been researching international schools here in Madrid, especially those offering the IB curriculum. I’ve found that information on this topic is scarce, and details about Spanish IB international schools are quite scattered. I spent a good amount of time calling and emailing several schools, and I’ve compiled the tuition information I gathered, including what I learned about Kensington School. I’m sharing it with other parents on the forum who might have the same need. Let’s discuss it together.
It’s important to note that the tuition fees listed here usually only cover teaching costs. Most schools have additional fees such as registration fees, meal plans, school bus services, and costs for books and materials. Therefore, the total expense will certainly be higher, so be sure to factor all of these in when planning your budget.
Overview of Tuition Fees at Popular IB Schools
Below is a summary of the approximate annual tuition fee ranges for a few well-known IB schools. All prices include tax. As fees can be adjusted each year, this is just a reference range. For context, you can also view recent Spanish IB results. Always confirm the exact figures directly with the schools.
| School Name | Area | Approx. Annual Fee Range |
| International College Spain | La Moraleja | €12,000 - €23,000 |
| The English Montessori School | Aravaca | €8,000 - €14,000 |
| King’s College, Soto de Viñuelas | Soto de Viñuelas | €9,000 - €18,000 |
| American School of Madrid | Pozuelo de Alarcón | €11,000 - €22,000 |
| Saint Louis University | Chamberí | |

Some Personal Thoughts
From what I’ve gathered, schools in the La Moraleja and Pozuelo areas tend to be more expensive, which makes sense as they are traditional affluent neighborhoods, and the facilities and services are indeed top-notch. For instance, ICS is considered “top-tier” among Madrid’s IB schools, consistently achieving excellent IB results, but its tuition is also the highest. TEMS and King’s College offer better value for money and have a great reputation among parents. Although ASM is called the American School, it also offers the IBDP, with a stronger emphasis on an American-style education.
Choosing a school is a huge undertaking. Besides tuition fees, factors like the school’s location, educational philosophy, facilities, and student body composition are also very important. I highly recommend scheduling a visit for an Open Day if you have the time to get a firsthand feel for the schools. I also welcome others who have information to add or want to share their school-selection experiences! Hope my wallet can handle it.
