Having just arrived in Spain, I’ve found the basketball atmosphere here is absolutely amazing! While watching a game, a fascinating topic came to mind: Spanish basketball seems to produce a lot of ‘bands of brothers’—families with multiple players, and these Spanish basketball brothers are all incredibly talented. Those genes are seriously powerful!
# The Gasol Brothers: Eternal Legends
When you talk about basketball brothers, you have to mention Pau Gasol and Marc Gasol first! [8, 11] This pair is the pride of Spanish basketball. The older brother, Pau, won two championships with the Lakers, and the younger brother, Marc, won one with the Raptors, making them the first pair of brothers in NBA history to both win a championship. [13] The moment they faced off for the opening tip-off as starting centers for the East and West in the 2015 NBA All-Star Game, representing the elite of Spanish basketball brothers, was truly one for the history books—so iconic!

# The Hernangómez Family: All About Basketball
Another famous pair is the Willy and Juancho Hernangómez brothers. [2, 19] Both have played in the NBA and are now key players for the Spanish national team. The older brother, Willy, is more of a traditional big man, while the younger brother, Juancho, is a stretch-four who has also starred in a movie. What’s even more interesting is that their mother is a former national team player and a European champion, and their sister, Andrea, also plays basketball. [1, 20] This family was practically born for basketball!
Not Just Brothers, But Brother-Sister Duos Too!
Beyond brother combos, the Spanish basketball world also has its brother-sister acts. For instance, everyone knows Rudy Fernández, but his sister, Marta Fernández, was also a Spanish national team player and even played in the WNBA! [4, 7] Both siblings are representative figures in Spanish basketball with remarkable achievements. The stories of these basketball families are truly fascinating.
Here is a simple table comparing the core members of these ‘basketball families’ for a clear overview:
| Family | Key Members | Major Achievements |
| Gasol | Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol | NBA champions, World champions, Olympic silver medalists |
| Hernangómez | Willy Hernangómez, Juancho Hernangómez | World champions, European champions |
| Fernández | Rudy Fernández, Marta Fernández | World champions, European champions, Olympic medalists |
There are surely other basketball families in Spain we might not be as familiar with. Do you know of any other similar examples? Or which brother/sibling duo is your favorite? Let’s talk about it! I’m team Gasol brothers for starters!
