I’ve been researching art universities in Spain lately, as I’m planning to apply for a master’s degree in design there next year. My head is spinning from looking at so many schools, but I’ve stumbled upon an interesting detail: the logos of these art universities are fascinating! Each crest is like a small piece of art. I feel like you can get a sense of a university’s vibe and style just from its logo. Does anyone else feel the same way?
For example, take one of Spain’s oldest universities, the Complutense University of Madrid. The logo for its Faculty of Fine Arts is a prime example. The entire design is very elegant and steeped in classicism. Just looking at it gives you a sense of its profound history, as if it’s declaring, ‘We are home to the masters.’ This quality is reflected in many Spanish university logos.

Many other schools, however, take a completely different approach. For instance, the Polytechnic University of Valencia, whose design school is also top-tier in Spain. Its logo is very modern and abstract, using geometric shapes to form a stylized version of the letters UPV. At first glance, it feels energetic, innovative, and tech-focused, which perfectly fits the identity of a design school within a polytechnic university. It gives the impression that studying here involves creating cutting-edge designs, a modern feel also present in the IE University Spain logo.
A Quick Comparison of Logo Styles
I’ve made a simple table to compare the logo styles of a few universities I’m interested in. This is just my personal take, so feel free to add your own!
| University | Logo Style | Keywords |
| Complutense University of Madrid, Faculty of Fine Arts | Classical, Formal | Historical, Artistic, Elegant |
| Polytechnic University of Valencia | Modern, Abstract | Tech-focused, Geometric, Dynamic |
| University of Barcelona, Faculty of Fine Arts | Balanced, Humanistic | Mix of Traditional & Modern, Academic |
Ultimately, a logo is a university’s public face. I know it’s a bit shallow to judge a university by its cover, but a well-designed logo truly reflects the institution’s aesthetics, positioning, and core spirit. It’s telling you: “Hey, this is the kind of school we are. Do you like what you see?”. Do you know of any other Spanish university logos with great designs? Or which one is your favorite? Let’s discuss!
