Hey everyone, I’ve been looking into different Spanish universities lately and happened to notice that IE University’s logo is quite interesting—it’s simple yet seems to convey a lot of information. As someone with a bit of an interest in design, I did a little digging and found there’s a story behind it. The Modern IE University Logo
I believe most of you are familiar with the current version of the logo. It’s a very modern, minimalist sans-serif design, using just the two lowercase letters ‘ie’ next to the university’s full name. The overall feel is very international, giving off a vibe of a tech company or an internet startup—not at all like a traditional, historic European university.

Personally, I feel this logo accurately communicates IE’s positioning: innovation, entrepreneurship, and globalization. It breaks away from the complex, classic crest designs of traditional university emblems, directly telling you that this is a future-oriented institution. The choice of color, this ‘IE Blue’, is also excellent—it’s professional and solid, yet still vibrant. It’s simple, direct, and highly recognizable.
The Evolution of the Old and New Logos
Actually, IE University underwent a rebranding a few years ago, and its previous logo looked different. Alumni might feel more nostalgic for the older version. I personally really admire IE University’s new logo design; it’s simple but not simplistic. It successfully uses a visual symbol to tell the story of the school and its future direction.
