So, why study psychology in Spain? I believe Spain’s psychology field, particularly in clinical areas, is very well-developed. The public healthcare system here is extensive, which means there are plenty of opportunities for research and practical experience. Moreover, as an EU country, Spanish degrees are highly recognized. There’s plenty of advice for studying at Spanish universities available, and a degree from here gives you a great advantage, whether you decide to stay in Spain or return to your home country after graduation.
A Few Universities Worth Your Attention
When it comes to top schools for psychology, you can’t miss these:
Complutense University of Madrid (UCM)
A prestigious, long-standing university, its psychology program is one of the best in all of Spain. Its Clinical Psychology and Health Psychology programs are top-tier. If you’re aiming for a career in counseling, UCM’s master’s programs are definitely worth considering.
Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB)
On par with UCM, UAB is an academic powerhouse. It boasts a strong research environment in psychology, with significant contributions in Cognitive Neuroscience and Child and Adolescent Psychological Development. If you’re interested in research, UAB is an ideal choice.
Besides these two giants, other universities also have unique strengths. For example, the historic University of Salamanca, whose Faculty of Psychology is one of the oldest in Spain, has a rich heritage. The University of Valencia is another excellent option. Finally, here’s an important TIP: If your goal is to become a licensed psychologist in Spain, after completing your bachelor’s degree, you must complete the official master’s program, the “Máster en Psicología General Sanitaria.” This master’s is the key to practicing professionally, and it’s quite competitive to get into, so be sure to plan ahead.
