I recently successfully obtained a Spanish visa in Dublin and would like to share my experience of the entire application process. As someone living in Ireland, I believe many people have the need to travel to Spain for tourism or visiting family, and I hope this sharing can help everyone.
Visa Types and Application Location
Spanish visa applications in Dublin are mainly processed through the VFS Global agency center, located at Fitzwilliam Square in Dublin 2. It’s important to note that Spanish visas are Schengen visas, which allow free movement within the Schengen area once obtained. Depending on the duration of stay and purpose, they are mainly divided into short-term tourist visas, family visit visas, and business visas.
Required Document Checklist
Preparing documents is the most important part of the entire application process. Here’s the complete checklist I compiled:

Special reminder: All non-English materials require official translations. If you are an Irish resident, you also need to provide a copy of your valid Irish residence permit when making your Dublin Spanish visa appointment at the Dublin Spanish visa center.
Appointment and Submission Process
Online appointment booking is mandatory. I recommend booking 2-3 weeks in advance, especially during peak travel seasons. After successful booking, you’ll receive a confirmation email with specific submission time and location. Don’t believe claims that you can go directly on the same day without an appointment - you must strictly follow your scheduled appointment time.
On submission day, I suggest arriving 15 minutes early. Staff will check document completeness and collect biometric information. The entire process takes about 30-45 minutes, and you can choose SMS notification service on-site to track your application progress.
Processing Time and Fees
Under normal circumstances, Spanish visa processing takes 10-15 working days. The visa fee is 80 euros, with VFS service fees of approximately 25 euros additional. If you need expedited processing, you can choose the fast-track service, but fees will increase accordingly.
It’s worth mentioning that having a good Schengen visa history significantly improves approval rates. My Dublin Spanish visa application took a total of 12 working days from submission to receiving my passport back, which was quite smooth overall. I recommend everyone plan their time reasonably and not wait until close to travel dates to start preparing documents.
