I recently visited Málaga and stayed at several budget hotels that offered great value for money, which I’d like to share for your reference. After all, not everyone has the budget for five-star hotels—finding a clean, comfortable, and affordable place is what really matters.
City Center Recommendations
Hotel Sur was where I stayed on my first night, located near the historic center, about a 10-minute walk to the Cathedral. The rooms aren’t huge but are very clean, with air conditioning and free WiFi. The front desk staff speak English, which is very convenient for tourists. Prices range from approximately 45-55 euros per night, higher during peak season. The only downside is the soundproofing is average, so if you’re sensitive to noise, you might want to check out hotel apartments in Málaga or bring earplugs.

Pensión Juanita is a family-run guesthouse with a very welcoming atmosphere. The owner is particularly kind and will proactively recommend nearby restaurants and attractions. The rooms are simply decorated but have a nice local character, and the prices are even better—around 35-40 euros per night. However, note that this place, unlike Vincci hotels, has no elevator, so if you have a lot of luggage, climbing stairs can be tiring. Similar to Málaga Picasso hotels, the location is slightly off-center, but it’s only a 15-minute walk to the beach.
Price Comparison Table
| Hotel Name | Nightly Rate | Distance from Center | Facilities Rating |
| Hotel Sur | 45-55€ | 10-min walk | 7/10 |
| Pensión Juanita | 35-40€ | 15-min walk | 6/10 |
| Hostal Larios | 40-50€ | 5-min walk | 8/10 |
Beachfront Options
If you want to stay near the beach, Hostal Larios is an excellent choice. Despite the name “Hostal,” it’s more like a small hotel with rooms slightly larger than the previous two. The biggest advantage is the location—you can see the Mediterranean right outside, and having breakfast on the balcony while watching the sea in the morning is truly delightful. Prices range from 40-50 euros, which is very reasonable considering the location.
Booking Tips
I recommend booking in advance through Booking.com or Airbnb, as walk-in options will be much more limited. Summer is peak season, with prices increasing by about 30%, so if your schedule is flexible, visiting in spring or fall will be significantly cheaper. Also, many budget hotels don’t include breakfast, but Málaga has cafés everywhere, and eating out is very convenient—a coffee and pastry typically costs 3-4 euros.
Málaga has plenty of budget hotel options, and as long as you’re not too picky, finding good value accommodation isn’t difficult. Remember to check reviews, especially recent ones, to avoid potential issues. I hope this information helps those planning to visit Málaga!
