Last month I vacationed in Alicante and stayed near the castle for a few days. I’d like to share this accommodation experience with you. I chose to stay near Santa Bárbara Castle mainly for convenient access to the old town, and it turned out to be a very wise decision.
Location and Transportation
The hotel is about a 15-minute walk from Santa Bárbara Castle, located on the edge of the old town. A taxi from the train station costs around 10 euros, or you can take the C6 bus line directly to the vicinity. Most conveniently, it’s only an 8-minute walk to the beach, so you can stroll by the sea in the morning and return without being too tired in the evening. There are plenty of tapas bars and supermarkets nearby, making daily life very convenient.
Room Facilities and Services
The room is medium-sized, approximately 25 square meters, with a fairly modern and minimalist decor. The air conditioning works well, which is very important in Alicante during summer. The bathroom is a bit small but adequate, with stable hot water. The only minor drawback is that the soundproofing is slightly lacking, so if you’re sensitive to noise, you might want to bring earplugs. The front desk staff speak English and Spanish, are quite friendly, and helped us book ferry tickets to Tabarca Island.

I especially recommend visiting the castle at sunset – the views are truly spectacular, offering a panoramic vista of the entire Alicante coastline.
Value for Money Analysis
During low season, room rates are approximately 60-80 euros per night, rising to over 100 euros in peak season. Considering the location and facilities, this pricing is mid to upper-mid range for Alicante. If you book in advance on Booking.com, you can sometimes get discounts of around 15%. I previously saw people saying this hotel was very expensive, but compared to chain hotels in the city center, the value for money is actually quite reasonable.
Breakfast is charged separately at 10 euros per person, with a selection that isn’t particularly extensive but decent quality. I personally recommend skipping the hotel breakfast – there’s a small place nearby called La Taberna where a breakfast set costs only 6 euros, with more generous portions and more authentic flavors.
If you’re planning to spend several days in Alicante and want to thoroughly explore the old town and castle, this hotel is an excellent choice. The location is convenient, facilities are comprehensive, and while it’s not a luxury option, it’s perfectly adequate as a base for exploring hidden treasures of Carcassonne, Alicante, and Occitania wine regions.
