Valencia Language School Selection Guide
I arrived in Valencia last September and have been studying Spanish here for over a year now. Recently, many friends have asked me about language schools, so I’d like to share my experience with Valencia language school tuition here, hoping it will help those planning to study Spanish in Valencia.
Language Schools I’ve Tried
When I first arrived in Valencia, I enrolled in a three-month intensive course at a private language school in the city center. The school was conveniently located near Xàtiva metro station, making daily commutes easy. Classes ran from 9 AM to 1 PM, five days a week, with small groups of 8-12 students. The teachers were all local native speakers with extensive teaching experience, but the Valencia language schools tuition was quite steep at around 380 euros per month.
Later, I switched to the language center at the University of Valencia, which offered more affordable courses at approximately 600 euros per semester, plus access to the university library and other facilities. However, class sizes were larger, typically 15-20 students, with relatively fewer opportunities for classroom interaction.

Course Type Comparison
Based on my research, language courses in Valencia mainly fall into these categories:
| Course Type | Weekly Hours | Monthly Cost | Best For |
| Intensive Course | 20 hours | 350-450€ | Students seeking rapid progress |
| Semi-intensive Course | 10 hours | 180-250€ | Those with work or other commitments |
| Evening Course | 6 hours | 120-180€ | People who work during the day |
| One-on-one Private Lessons | Customizable | 25-40€/hour | Those with special needs or flexible schedules |
My personal recommendation is that if time and budget allow, starting with an intensive course is ideal. Language learning requires continuous immersion, and four hours of daily study helps maintain your language sense, leading to noticeable progress. Once you reach B1 or B2 level, you can switch to semi-intensive or evening courses and participate in language exchange activities to practice speaking.
DELE Exam Preparation
If your goal is to obtain a DELE certificate, choose a school with dedicated exam preparation courses. When I took the B2 exam, I enrolled in a one-month DELE prep class alongside my regular course, meeting three times weekly to practice past papers and exam strategies. The exam registration fee is 175 euros, and you need to register 2-3 months in advance on the Cervantes Institute website, as spots fill up quickly.
Valencia has several DELE exam centers, with the largest being the Instituto Cervantes in the city center. I recommend visiting the exam center beforehand to familiarize yourself with the environment, especially where the oral exam waiting area is located, so you won’t be nervous on exam day.
Practical Study Tips
Besides attending classes, I found language exchange activities most helpful. Valencia has many free intercambio events, usually held at bars or cafes, which you can find on Meetup or Facebook. It might feel a bit awkward at first, but with Valencia Costa language practice, you’ll get used to it after a few visits and meet many interesting people.
I also recommend watching Spanish TV series and news programs. Netflix has many locally produced Spanish series - start with Spanish subtitles and gradually adapt to normal speaking speed. The local TV station À Punt’s news programs are also excellent; although they’re in Valencian, they’re very helpful for understanding local culture.
Learning Spanish in Valencia is an excellent choice. The cost of living is lower than Madrid and Barcelona, the weather is great, the beach is nearby, and locals are very friendly. Feel free to leave comments if you have any specific questions!
