Real Cost of Living in Valencia: 2025 Updated Expense Breakdown
I’ve noticed many people asking about the cost of living in Valencia lately. As a resident who has been living in Valencia for three years, I’d like to share my actual expenses. Valencia is indeed much cheaper than Madrid and Barcelona, but the specific costs still depend on your lifestyle.
Housing Expenses
Rent is definitely the biggest expense. A one-bedroom apartment in the city center costs around 600-800 euros per month. If you choose a slightly more distant area, such as Benimaclet or Algirós, it can drop to 450-600 euros. Sharing an apartment is much cheaper - a room typically costs 300-400 euros. Utilities including water, electricity, and internet add up to about 50-80 euros per month, with heating making it more expensive in winter.
Daily Food Expenses
Supermarket shopping is the most economical option. Mercadona and Consum are my go-to supermarkets, with weekly shopping costing around 40-60 euros, totaling 200-250 euros per month. If you prefer eating out, the lunch Menu del día typically costs 10-15 euros, including starter, main course, dessert, and drink - great value for money. Occasional weekend restaurant visits cost around 20-35 euros per person.

Many people choose cycling - the bicycle lane network here is well-developed, and a second-hand bike costs 100-200 euros, solving commuting needs.
Entertainment and Other Expenses
Gym memberships range from 30-50 euros per month, and movie tickets cost around 8-10 euros. Weekend beach visits are free entertainment, which is one of the great advantages of living in Valencia. My mobile phone plan costs 15 euros per month, including sufficient data and call time. Overall, a comfortable life for one person in Valencia requires a monthly budget of 1000-1300 euros.
