Just received your offer from the University of Zaragoza? One of the biggest challenges is finding accommodation. Housing costs here vary significantly depending on the type and location you choose. After spending two years here, I’ve figured out the pricing for all accommodation options and want to share this information with prospective students.
University Residences and Student Apartments
The University of Zaragoza has limited on-campus housing, mainly partnering with several student residences. Prices range from €350 to €600 per month, depending on room type and whether meals are included. For example, Residencia Universitaria Goya near the Pedro Cerbuna campus offers single rooms with private bathrooms for approximately €450-500 per month, including utilities and internet but not meals. Residences near the San Francisco campus are slightly cheaper, with shared bathroom rooms available for around €350.

The advantage of these student residences is convenience—utilities are included, plus access to common study rooms and laundry facilities. The downside is stricter rules, and popular rooms at the [University of Zaragoza] need to be booked several months in advance, otherwise they’re nearly impossible to secure.
City Center Shared Apartments
If you prefer more independence at the University of Zaragoza, sharing an apartment is the most common choice. In central areas like Casco Viejo or Delicias, single rooms in three-bedroom apartments range from €250-400. I previously rented a room near Gran Vía for €300 including building fees, with utilities separate—adding approximately €40-50 per month when split.
| Area | Single Room Price | Features |
| Casco Viejo | €280-400 | Close to main campus, convenient amenities |
| Delicias | €250-350 | Good transport links, many supermarkets |
| Universidad | €300-450 | Student area, great atmosphere |
| Actur | €220-300 | Further from center, affordable prices |
When sharing, it’s important to verify the landlord’s reliability. Some landlords at the University of Zaragoza language school will find various excuses to withhold your deposit when you move out. I recommend photographing the room’s condition before signing the contract and carefully reviewing deposit terms.
Studio Apartments
If your budget allows, consider renting a studio or one-bedroom apartment. City center studios cost approximately €600-800, while slightly peripheral areas like Torrero or Oliver offer decent options for around €500. These apartments typically don’t include utilities, so total monthly expenses range from €700-900.
Recommended Housing Search Platforms
Idealista and Fotocasa are the most popular rental websites, offering numerous listings with frequent updates. Additionally, the University of Zaragoza student association Facebook groups often post subletting opportunities, usually cheaper than going through agencies. Avoid sublandlords in WeChat groups—many are problematic, either overcharging or offering poor-quality accommodation.
Accommodation costs in Zaragoza are mid-range for Spain, considerably cheaper than Barcelona or Madrid. If it’s your first year and you’re unfamiliar with the area, I recommend starting with a student residence for a few months to get acclimated before searching for shared accommodation. Remember to budget at least two months’ rent for the deposit and first month’s payment, as most landlords here require one month’s deposit plus one month’s rent upfront.
