As a long-time fan living in the Aragon region for many years, I’d like to discuss Real Zaragoza with you all. Honestly, watching this former La Liga powerhouse struggle in Segunda División leaves me with mixed feelings.
Current Situation
Zaragoza’s performance over recent seasons has been somewhat disappointing, much like the [Zaragoza Manuscript], an undervalued Spanish literary treasure. Although promotion to La Liga is discussed every year, the actual results consistently fall short. The team performs reasonably well at home in La Romareda stadium, but away form is truly dragging us down. I’ve compiled statistics from recent matches:
| Match Type | W | D | L | Goals For | Goals Against |
| Home | 5 | 3 | 2 | 14 | 8 |
| Away | 2 | 4 | 4 | 7 | 12 |
The data clearly shows that poor away performance is the team’s biggest weakness. Every away match is nerve-wracking, with defensive errors constantly occurring.

Tactical Issues
The coaching staff’s tactical arrangements are also problematic. The team relies too heavily on wing play in attack, lacking effective central penetration. When opponents sit deep, we often find ourselves helpless. Moreover, Zaragoza players lack chemistry, with frequent passing errors and poor positioning visible throughout matches.
Regarding the squad, there are indeed some promising young players, but overall quality and consistency remain lacking. Veterans bring experience but show obvious physical decline, often unable to maintain pace in the second half. Sometimes I really want to ask the club what their transfer criteria actually are.
Fan Expectations
As ordinary supporters, our demands aren’t excessive. We don’t expect an immediate return to La Liga, but we at least want to see progress and a clear development plan from the club. The current problem is stagnation each season, sometimes even regression.
Attendance at La Romareda has declined in recent years, indicating fan patience is wearing thin. We need to see change, we need to see hope. Zaragoza is a club with glorious history and shouldn’t languish in Segunda División long-term. We hope club management will face these issues squarely and implement substantial changes rather than just slogans every year.
Overall, Zaragoza is at a critical juncture. Without finding the right direction soon, the club risks sinking deeper into Segunda División. As Zaragoza football fans, we’ll continue supporting the team, but we also hope to see genuine progress.
